Macau is an independent region located in the south of China. It is conveniently located to the west of the Pearl River Delta, and it is famous for being the most densely populated region across the world. Until 1999, Macau was Portuguese territory, and that is the reason it features a mixture of cultures.
The Cotai Strip forms a link between Taipa Island and Coloane Island and is lined with large, prominent casinos and malls that have made it acquire a nickname of the "Las Vegas" of Asia. The Macau Tower is one of the city's beautiful skyscrapers with observatory spots, from where viewing the whole city is breathtaking. The Macau Historic Center, made of beautiful, narrow alleys, is home to the colonial houses and the ever-grand Senado Square. The Saint Paul ruins, built atop a steep staircase, feature the seventeenth-century Jesuit Church's baroque façade. Nearby stands the A-Ma Temple, built in the sixteenth century and dedicated to the Mariners' goddess Taoist. The outstanding Fortaleza do Monte, built upon the hilltop, is another attractive spot since 1626. It stands next to the Museum of Macau, where the culture and history of the city lie displayed.
Another attractive spot in Macau is the Lou Lim Leoc, a Chinese garden that was planted during the nineteenth century. Its magnificence arises from the beautifully winding paths within the garden, the tall, amazing bamboo groves, and the numerous bridges from where the garden can be viewed.
Relaxing on the Hac Sa Beach in Coloane is breathtaking, and the beach is famous for the views in the surrounding areas, and the black sand and rocks along the shores.
Visitors get to partake of various local and international delicacies as well as a fusion of Asian and European dishes at the Macanese cuisine.
