Mecca, Saudi Arabia

Mecca is a city in Saudi Arabia, within the region of Hejazi in the Arabian Peninsula. Mecca is considered the holiest city by Muslims because it is home to the birthplace of Prophet Muhammad, as well as the place he first saw the revelation of the Quran and the Islam faith as a whole. Because of its holiness, Muslims are the only people allowed to set foot in Mecca.
The annual pilgrimage known as Hajj sees millions of Muslims from across the world arriving in Mecca for the grand ceremony. The magnificent Masjid al-Haram, which is the sacred mosque, was built in the seventh century. It is surrounded by the holy Islam shrine, Kaaba, a cubicle structure that is covered in clothes.
Nearby, the Makkah Clock Royal Tower stands in a six hundred and one-meter mighty grandeur, adjoined with the Abraj Al Bait Complex. Many high-end shopping malls and boutiques can be found here.
Tourists visit Mount Arafat on the southeastern part of Mecca, which is considered the mountain on which Muhammad gave his last sermon. The famous Jabal-al-Nour, found on the northeastern side of Mecca, is also known as the mountain of light and is a spectacular feature of the cave in which Muhammad got the revelation of the Quran and Islam faith. Another tourist location is to the east of Mecca, in Mina's huge tented city, where tourists can view the site of the ritual stoning of the devil.

When to visit Mecca

Between April and October, Mecca experiences summer. The weather is typical of a desert climate, and hot, humid days are not uncommon all through the year. The annual Hajj lasts for a whole week and falls on varying dates according to the Islamic calendar. During this festival, millions of Muslim pilgrims from across the world visit Mecca, and non-Muslims cannot enter Mecca. Eid-al-Fitr is another major event celebrated to mark the end of the fasting period, but its dates vary according to Islam laws.
