The Tokyo Metropolis is the most populated prefecture in Japan, as well as in the world. Tokyo remains the busiest prefecture in Japan and is currently the capital of Japan. Established in 1943 after a merger between Tokyo City and Tokyo Prefecture, The region has continued to grow and is now the most active Global Economic Power.
The cityscape of Tokyo is a brief combination of modern architectural skyscraper designs with the traditional setting. The view of ancient temples and at the same time, the neon-lit sophisticated modern glass towers is simply breathtaking. From the top observation deck on the Tokyo Skytree Tower, the entire downtown can be viewed in the most beautiful panoramic views. The iconic gate of Meiji Shinto Shrine amid the stunning natural woods attracts so many scenic views to it, as does the towering Imperial Palace, which is beautifully set deep in a public park.
In the Tokyo National Museum, are showcased exhibitions of the traditional artwork that dates back to ancient times. In the Edo-Tokyo Museum, more exhibits are displayed amid the reconstructed architecture of the Kabuki Theater. The iconic Senso-Ji Buddhist temple that was built in the seventh century stands firm in the busy Asakusa District as busy kimono-clad women go about along the Nakamise Street's bustling shops and stalls.
For a memorable nightlife, visit the vibrant nightclubs and loud karaoke bars in Roppongi, as well as the Izakaya -a name for the comfortably set Japanese style pubs. Tokyo people enjoy the local dishes in the wonderful food courts and stalls in Shibuya and Harajuku.
Shopping for food is fantastic in the large Toyosu Market, renowned for its fish and routine morning tuna auctions. More shopping options are available at Akihabara for all electronics-related shopping.

When to visit Tokyo

Tokyo is a vibrant region all year long, receiving visitors during all seasons. The climate of Tokyo is humid subtropical, featuring hot, humid summers and mild, tolerable winters. The celebrations of ushering the New Year are colorful and see people visiting the numerous shrines in Tokyo.
In April, amid the colorfulness of the blossoming trees and flowers, Tokyo marks its Cherry Blossoms Festival, with celebrations all over. In May, the festival of Sanja Matsuri is held amid parades of people carrying portable shrines around Tokyo. Another colorful event is the Sumida River Fireworks Festival, usually held in July amid all the pomp and color from the beautiful fireworks. In August, there is another event - the Obon Festivals considered a public Buddhist holiday held to celebrate all the ancestors. In the same month, Koenji Station is crowded with parades in a celebration commonly known as Awa Odori.
