Weather in April

April, typically the final month of Costa Rica's dry season, sees the onset of warmer weather across the country. This month records the highest temperatures of the year, with averages ranging from 22°C (71.6°F) in the central highlands to a warmer 29°C (84.2°F) along the coastal lowlands. Particularly, the Pacific coast offers excellent beach weather, with warm ocean waters and ample sunshine that cater perfectly to surfers and sunbathers alike.

The regions of San Jose and the Cordillera Central in the central highlands provide a cooler contrast to the coastal warmth, with comfortable temperatures from 22°C (71.6°F) to 24°C (75.2°F). This makes April an ideal month for outdoor exploration, from visiting coffee plantations and cloud forests to hiking in national parks.

The Caribbean coast, with its more consistent rainfall throughout the year, tends to remain slightly cooler than the rest of the country. Nevertheless, April typically sees a decrease in rainfall in this region, making it a relatively good time to visit.

Despite the warm conditions, April does not challenge the record high temperature set in February 1964. However, visitors should anticipate warm and sunny days, especially in the coastal areas.

As April transitions into May, the temperatures begin to decrease slightly, and the onset of the wet season introduces increased rainfall. Despite this change, April's warm, sunny days and reduced rainfall make it an excellent month to visit and experience the diverse beauty of Costa Rica.
