Kumasi has a tropical wet and dry type of climate (Köppen climate classification Aw) with hot conditions for the majority of the year. Kumasi, the second-largest city in Ghana, lies in the Ashanti Region in the south-central part of the country. The proximity to the equator and the water body of the Gulf of Guinea, as well as the dry Saharan winds, chiefly influence the climate of the city.

The city lies near a rain forest region with a thriving natural habitat that consists of many species of plants and flowers. Kumasi is only 19 miles away from Lake Bosumtwi, a natural crater lake, and hardly 300 miles from the equator. The region is famous for its historic sites, wildlife, and natural reserves.
