Kumasi has a tropical wet and dry type of climate (Köppen climate classification Aw) with hot conditions for the majority of the year. Kumasi, the second-largest city in Ghana, lies in the Ashanti Region in the south-central part of the country. The proximity to the equator and the water body of the Gulf of Guinea, as well as the dry Saharan winds, chiefly influence the climate of the city.

Kumasi, the Garden City, stands at an average altitude of 250 meters above sea level. The topography is a combination of hilly terrain and agricultural lands with rich fertile soil.
