Isle of Man
The
Isle of Man is an island in the Irish Sea off the northwestern coast of England. It is a British Crown Dependency, with its own legislature and two branches of government: the Legislative Council and the House of Keys. With an area of 221 square miles (572 sq km) and a population estimated at 84,400 in 2023, the capital of the Isle of Man is Douglas, home to 25,347 people as of 2001. The Manx breed of tailless cats is believed to have originated from here.
The official language of the Isle of Man is English and there is no official religion. The currency used is the Manx pound (£M). According to data from 2022, the island has a population rank of 204 and is projected to reach 88,700 by 2030. Population density is 381 persons per square mile (147.2 persons per sq km). A majority of the population live in urban areas, with 52.6% living in cities and 47.4% living in rural areas. Life expectancy averages 79.1 years for males and 83.2 years for females, and the 2018 Gross National Income (GNI) was 6,992 US dollars thousand million and GNI per capita was 83,160 US dollars.
