Venice, Italy

Venice is an ancient city located in the northeastern part of Italy, serving as the capital of the region of Veneto. It is one of the original wealthiest and most influential economic centers of the world. The city is located on a group of a little over one hundred small islands on the Venetian Lagoon, in the Adriatic Sea. Venice has a secure network of canals interlinked and connected only by bridges.
One such canal is the famous Grand Canal, which is home to ancient structures as well as iconic Renaissance and Gothic palaces. This canal is the biggest and most famous of all Venice canals, and it forms one of the most significant attraction spots in the city.
Piazza San Marco, the central square in Venice, and it contains some famous spots in Venice. For instance, the Campanile Bell Tower stands tall with fantastic panoramic views of the city below, which appears stunning as all the roofs are red. The iconic Saint Mark's Basilica is also set in the central square, with its stunning architecture, complete with tiles with Byzantine Mosaics that make the Basilica a sight to behold.
The Gothic Doge's Palace, to the eastern side of the central square, is beautiful in it a pink and white finish. Crowds gather here before the Catholic Lent season, dressed in different masks and costumes to mark their celebrations.
Nearby, there stands an outstanding gallery that showcases modern artwork, called the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. In the same area, tourists like to visit the Galleria dell'Accademia, which necessarily is a museum showcasing Vedutisti paintings and other arts and crafts from the Renaissance era.
Across the water, over a small Rialto footbridge, there is a market that is famous for supplying foodstuffs to the restaurants in the rest of Venice, especially those keen on fish foods.

When to visit Venice

Most tourists check into Venice between June and August, when the weather is warm and pleasant as well as highly tolerable. Occasionally, between November and March, there occurs a periodic flooding episode known as Acqua Alta that may extend well over to the Piazza San Marco, reaching up to the ankle.
From February to March, Venice is a party carnival with people dressed up in masks and costumes filling the city for various parties and celebrations.
