Missouri is a Midwestern US state located between Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska. It has an area of 69,707 square miles (180,540 square kilometers) and a population of 6,154,913 (2022 est.) 6,177,957 people. The capital city is Jefferson City.
The Missouri River runs east to west across the state and divides it into two distinct regions: the northern region with rolling hills and fertile plains, and the southern region with deep valleys and swift streams.
Nicknamed the "Show Me State", Missouri's motto is “Salus Populi Suprema Lex Esto (The Welfare of the People Shall Be the Supreme Law).” Its state bird is the eastern bluebird, its state flower is the hawthorn blossom and its state song is “Missouri Waltz”. It was admitted to the Union on
