New Jersey, USA
New Jersey is an eastern state in the United States of America. It has an area of 8,723 square miles (22,591 square kilometers) and a population of 9,288,994 (2022 est.) 9,261,699. Its capital is Trenton and it is situated on the Atlantic Ocean, bordered by New York, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. The Hudson River forms its northeastern boundary, while the Delaware River is its western boundary.
Tourism plays an important role in the economy of New Jersey, with Atlantic City being its main attraction. Other major cities include Newark, Jersey City, Paterson, and Elizabeth. It is nicknamed the Garden State and its motto is “Liberty and Prosperity”. Its state bird is the eastern goldfinch and its state flower is the blue violet. Although there is no official state song, “I'm From New Jersey” is often used as an unofficial anthem.
In terms of representation in the US House of Representatives, New Jersey has 12 seats out of 435. It falls under the Eastern Time Zone (GMT − 5 hours). New Jersey was admitted to the Union on
December 18, 1787.
