North Carolina, USA
North Carolina is a state located in the southern Atlantic region of the United States. It covers an area of 53,819 square miles (139,391 sq km) and, as of 2022, is estimated to be home to 10,698,973 people. The capital city of North Carolina is Raleigh.
Bordering Virginia, South Carolina, and Tennessee on the Atlantic Ocean, North Carolina has many mountain ranges, including the Great Smoky Mountains in the west and the Blue Ridge Mountains in the east. This state is largely rural but it is also home to a leading industrial sector and has seen growth in the high technology industry around the Raleigh-Durham area. The most important products from this state are tobacco, corn (maize), and furniture.
In addition to being known as the Tar Heel State and the Old North State, North Carolina's official motto is "Esse Quam Videri (To Be Rather Than To Seem)" and its official bird is the northern cardinal. Its state flower is the flowering dogwood and its state song is “The Old North State”. North Carolina currently holds 13 seats (of 435) in the US House of Representatives and is in the Eastern Time Zone (GMT -5 hours).
