Nashville is the capital city of the US state of
Tennessee, its most populated city, and functioning as the capacity of the official seat of the county of Davidson. Nashville has a beautiful location to the northern part of middle Tennessee, upon the significant Cumberland River. Its location and the fact that it ranks among the topmost populated cities in the United States makes it a vital city in the entire Nashville metropolitan region
Nashville was established in 1779 and was named after the general of the famed Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War. Over the years, the city has witnessed tremendous growth and development because of its convenient location on the Cumberland River, and today Nashville stands as a firm educational, economic, cultural, financial, and tourist hub in the region and beyond.
The Nashville skyline has one of the most intricately designed buildings, encompassing both the ancient touches and the modern skyscraper looks. The iconic Parthenon, which replicates the original Parthenon in Athens, is one such vital landmark. The massive Ryman Auditorium is another old building that unites Nashville in various performance venues. The iconic and uniting Tennessee State Capitol building is yet another extremely significant landmark in the city. Modern structures include the all-inclusive Bridgestone Arena, the ultra-modern Nissan Stadium in downtown Nashville, the extremely tall AT&T Building, the contemporary Life and Casualty skyscraper tower, and the glass skyscraper as The Pinnacle.
The outskirts of Nashville are adorned with incredibly natural and scenic environments, including vast mountainous regions, scenic natural forestry, and water bodies. More beautiful structures are found in the outskirts, including the former residence of President Andrew Jackson, which is known as the Belle Meade Plantation and the Hermitage. The same goes for Barbara Mandrell's country mansion built within the leafy suburbs of Fontanel.
Nashville enjoys a humid subtropical climate of Köppen Cfa. The general characteristics of this weather are warm to hot and highly humid summers and cool, tolerable winters. Extremely cold days are rare, as are extremely hot days, although the city has a record for severe allergies that can affect vulnerable people during spring and autumn, to which visitors are warned. Snowfall is exceptionally light and occasionally rare, but tornadoes and thunderstorms occur reportedly between
February and
May.
Summer highs average 91.4°F (33°C) and lows 71.8°F (22.1°C), but there are days when the heat goes as high as 98.6°F (37°C). Early summer receives ample rainfall, which considerably lessens as summer progresses.
Winter has highs of 59.5°F (15.3°C) and lows of 29.7°F (-1.3°C), with periodic highs of up to 73.4°F (23°C) and lows of lower than 23°F (-5°C). Snowfall traces may come as early as mid-
October, along with the annual heavy rains, which last through
June.
Nashville is a beautiful year-round travel destination. However, the peak of the travel period falls between May and
August, during the height of summer. Apart from having the warmest weather for outdoor indulgements, this period is devoid of some of the commonly experienced weather hazards and is an excellent time to tour Nashville even late into the evening, thanks to the extended daylight hours.
