Nassau is both the capital city of the Bahamas as well as its official commercial center. It is found on New Providence Island, which happens to be the most populated of all the islands in the Bahamas. Nassau is deeply developed and is equipped with all amenities and services, including an intricate road and air network.
During the eighteenth century, Nassau flourished fast because of the vibrant slave trade business that was highly rampant then. Over the years, the city expanded in both population and development up until the end of the slave trade. When the African slaves were resettled around the city, there was an influx of the Africans, and the several plantations and vast arable lands began to become uncultivated again.
Nassau is home to a beautiful landscape of hills and valleys. Numerous white sand beaches dot its coastline, complete with magnificent turquoise blue waters. Stunning offshore coral reefs are a part of the wondrous nature of Nassau, providing the best spots for visitors to snorkel and dive.
Nassau is still a popular stop spot for large cruise ships, and numerous holiday condos and hotel resorts dominate. Shopping stalls, high-end boutiques, and hip shopping malls are everywhere in downtown Nassau, mainly on the ever-busy Bay Street. For random art and craft items and souvenirs, visitors are drawn to the antique stalls and unique shops in the Straw Market.
For all sorts of meals, local delicacies, international dishes, and continental fusions, visitors check in to the many eateries and dish joints as well as the hip restaurants and hotels.
The Welcome gateway into Nassau is one of the most significant landmarks of the city, standing firm in its bright yellow and green color schemes. Most of the buildings in the city have maintained the British colonial touch of pink hues and pastel colors. Another of the most visible landmarks of Nassau is the iconic Queen's Staircase, featuring sixty-six limestone stair steps built as far back as 1793. Up the stairs, stands the ancient Fort Fincastle from where sweeping panoramic views of the harbor and the city can be achieved.

When to visit Nassau

Nassau experiences a tropical savanna climate of Köppen Aw with a slight bordering on the tropical monsoon climate of Köppen Am. The general characteristics encompass scorching, humid, and wet summers and warm, pleasant, and moderately dry winters. The temperature is moderately steady throughout the year, and the difference between the daily mean temperatures varies very slightly.
The rainy season begins in May and goes on through October, collecting a total of 937.3mm (36.9") of precipitation. The wettest month is June, with a high 8.9mm (0.4") in the rain gauge from approximately fifteen rainy days. The driest months, on the other hand, are December and February with a low 50.8mm (2") in precipitation.
The peak of the tourist season in Nassau is between December and May when the highest number of festivals is held. Seeing that Nassau is extremely scorching between June and October, this period offers a great time that is devoid of extreme heat waves and sunburns. This period is also free of the rainy season that begins in June through November and is crowned with hurricanes and other possible weather hazards.
The Sailing Regatta of the New Year is among the top events to attend in Nassau. The same goes for the famous Nassau Classic Car Festival in January and the Bacardi Rum Cup sailors' competition held in March. More fun, concerts, and performance shows are enjoyed during the Bahamas International Film Festival.
