Weather in January

January falls in the midst of Zimbabwe's summer season, marking the peak of the rainy period. It is one of the wettest months, with the country receiving significant rainfall, averaging 100mm (3.94") to 200mm (7.87"), depending on the region. In the low-lying areas, particularly in the Zambezi Valley and the southeastern Lowveld, temperatures frequently exceed 30°C (86°F). This heat, combined with the high levels of humidity resulting from the frequent rains, can make conditions feel intense and somewhat oppressive.

In contrast, the weather is a bit milder in Zimbabwe's highland regions. The capital city, Harare, located on the Highveld, experiences average daytime temperatures ranging from 20°C (68°F) to 25°C (77°F) in January. Nighttime temperatures can drop to 15°C (59°F), offering some relief from the daytime heat.

Victoria Falls, another notable city and popular tourist destination, also experiences high temperatures in January. However, the heavy mist from the falls provides a cooling effect, which can be a welcome respite for visitors.

Conversely, as the country transitions into February, there is typically a marginal decrease in rainfall, though the temperatures remain relatively high.
