Melbourne has a temperate oceanic climate. The summers range anything from warm to hot and are often characterized by very changeable weather. Summer is volatile, and the unpredictable weather can result in extreme weather conditions like thunderstorms and strong cold fronts, as well as hail and gales.
Winter, on the other hand, is calmer and has no extreme weather changeability. Winter runs from June to August and is characterized by mild temperature, very calm weather, and mostly damp and cloudy days.
The peak of the traveling season is between December and March, during summer. Even though the weather is quite changeable, this is the time when various attractive activities and events take place. Next, there is the Midsumma Festival that takes place between January and February, with a big focus on the LBGT community's rights and freedoms.
