Lithuania
Lithuania is a beautiful country situated in northeastern Europe, one of the three Baltic States. The nation has a total area of 65,286 square kilometers (25,207 sq mi) and an estimated population of 2,755,000 in 2023. Its capital city is Vilnius, and Lithuanians make up the majority of its inhabitants; there are also smaller numbers of Russians, Poles, and Belarusians. Lithuanian is the official language, with Russian, Polish, and Belarusian also spoken. Christianity, particularly Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy, is the predominant religion. The currency of Lithuania is the euro (€).
Lithuania is mostly composed of low-lying plains interspersed with hilly uplands and rivers that flow westward to the Baltic Sea. Manufacturing, such as metalworking, woodworking, and textile production, is especially prominent in the east and south. Livestock breeding is the focus of agriculture, with dairy farming and pigs being raised, along with cereals, flax, sugar beets, potatoes, and fodder crops.
The government of Lithuania is a unitary multiparty republic with one legislative house, the Seimas or Parliament. The president is the head of state and the prime minister is the head of government.
