Johor Bahru, Malaysia

Johor Bahru is the capital of Johor, a Malaysian State. It was formerly known as Tanjung Puteri or Iskandar Puteri up until 1862. The city is one of the largest in Malaysia and is located conveniently on the Malay Peninsula, albeit to the south. Johor Bahru is famous for its causeway, along with the Straits of Johor, that form a connection between Johor Bahru and Singapore.
Johor Bahru features many attraction spots and is home to a mixture of modern and ancient architecture that make the Island a perfect location for exploration.
Istana Besar is a mighty palace which was built in 1866 by Sultan Abu Bakar. In the present day, the iconic Palace is being used as the Roya Abu Bakar Museum. The intimidating Palace is set on the beautiful walkway on the waterfront of Johor Bahru.
The Royal Abu Bakar Museum contains many royal artifacts that date back into time, including the sultanate items like the royal historical documents, the beautiful silverware, and the royal fine art, among other things.
Close by stands the Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque, yet another beautiful architectural work in Johor Bahru. The Mosque was built sometimes before 1900 and has been uniquely done and finished in intricate Victorian architectural styles.
Some beautiful Hindu temples in Johor Bahru form quite amazing sights to behold. One such one is the beautifully designed Arulmigu Sri Rajakaliamman Glass Temple that became famous as the very first glass temple in Johor Bahru. It is quite small in size, but very striking in the mosaic designs that were used on it. Notably, the temple made it to the Malaysian Book of Records and still remains one of the most iconic tourist attractions.
Johor Bahru has a very vibrant nightlife, and visitors can party and enjoy their favorite drinks late into the evening at the bars and clubhouses in Jalan Wong Ah Fook, within the boulevard of the central business district. In the same area, there are numerous shops and dozens of shopping malls for all kinds of shopping needs.
