Benidorm is a beautiful municipality located in Alicante Province, eastern
Spain, along the Mediterranean coastal region. The city has grown to become a significant tourist spot in the country, with numerous high-end hotels and resorts, and as many stunning skyscrapers. Benidorm is home to many beautiful beaches, and its tourism industry is ever-growing. As one of the most populated towns in the province of Alicante, the former fishing village and now a fully-developed seaside resort city has the most attractive promenades lined with palm trees and warm blue waters.
Punta Canfali is the most famous spot in Benidorm, a beautiful spot from where visitors can view the town from, overlooking the rocks and sea below. Perhaps the most intriguing feature of the Canfali is the hilltop San Jaime Church that dates back into the 18th Century, with its magnificent blue domes.
Outdoors in Benidorm include the ever-green and scenic L’Aiguera Park where open-air concerts are held, an amusement park in Terra Mitica, the alluring Mundomar aquarium, Terra Natura Zoo, and the famous Aqualandia waterpark. The shopping experience can range from the many street shops and stalls to the high-end malls and boutiques. The food scene stretches from the tasty local dishes in the street cafes to the intricate lush restaurants serving international cuisines. Benidorm’s nightlife remains vibrant with all the bars, night-clubs, and cabarets throughout the city.
Benidorm enjoys a semi-arid climate that is classified as Köppen BSh. The weather is generally characterized with warm to hot summers and mild, tolerable winters. In the course of the year, the days are sunny and hot, and occasionally there are a few showers of rainfall.
During winter, between
December and
February, Benidorm is mild and refreshing. The temperature on the coldest days and nights ranges between 6°C (42.8°F) and 12°C (53.6°F), and on the warmest days, the temperature rises to the range of 15°C (59°F) and 22°C (71.6°F). Sunshine hours throughout the season remain ample, and the daylight hours can go up to ten per month. Snowfall in Benidorm is rare.
During summer, between
May and
August, the temperature rises considerably. On the coldest days, the mercury stretches to a range of 20°C (68°F) and 24°C (75.2°F), and on the hottest days, the readings range between 28°C (82.4°F) and 32°C (89.6°F). The afternoons may receive intermittent rainfall, albeit in very minimal amounts. Being in a hot desert region, Benidorm has quite high UV index averages during the summer months, rising to nine!
Spring and autumn register very comfortable weather, both mild and pleasant. During spring, from
March to
April, for instance, the temperature rises slightly and the nights and early mornings become cooler than during winter. The temperature keeps rising gradually as summer approaches, seeing that it is more of a transitional period. Autumn has good weather, notably because of the absence of the extreme summer scorch.
Benidorm can be visited any time in the year, but most visitors love the summer heat and the festivals that come with the season, not forgetting the numerous water and outdoor activities that can be indulged.
Events like the February Carnival, the March St. Joseph’s Day, the San Juan Bonfires in
June, the
July Low Festival, as well as the Benidorm Fiestas in
November are some of the most attended festivals that celebrate and appreciate the people of Benidorm.
