Bristol is a beautiful ancient city found in the South West England region. It is also a moderately populated county with an urban area that is number eight in the largest of urban areas of the
United Kingdom.
To the southeastern region, Bristol borders the city of Bath and to the northeastern part, Gloucester. Bristol also borders Somerset's northern part and Gloucestershire's southern part.
Bristol makes one of the top most-popular travel destinations in the United Kingdom and has been voted as Britain's best city to live in twice. As a principal city in its region, the city serves as the active media, cultural, economic, financial, and tourist hub.
Many outstanding landmarks are found all over Bristol, beginning with the gothic Wills Memorial Building that is considered the last of the buildings from the Gothic Era. The Cabot Tower is another of the attractions in Bristol, standing tall since the 1890s within the scenic public park within St. Brandon's Hill. The iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge is another of the many landmarks of Bristol. It is built above the Avon River and is instrumental in connecting Bristol to Leigh Woods in the North Somerset district. Most of the city's great spots can be viewed from up this high bridge.
The rich history and culture of Bristol have been preserved away in museums like the famed M Shed Museum as well as the iconic Arnolfini Art Gallery, in forms of beautiful works of art and craft, and visitors flock the spots to enjoy the stunning masterpieces.
Outdoor activities are varied; cycling competitions, hiking, and biking, among others, go on within the Ashton Court Estate, a spot that is renowned for its numerous public events.
The hilly landscape is a part of what attracts many tourists to Bristol, and so is its bedrock of limestone. The outskirts encompass a great deal of the rocky Mendip Hills and the scenic Cotswold hill ranges, plus the entire seven hills on which the city is believed to be built.
Bristol experiences an oceanic climate that is Köppen classified as Cfb, which is a lot milder as compared to most other climatic regions in the UK and England. The city receives ample sunshine throughout the year, and its rainfall is moderately low and evenly spread throughout the year. Usually, winter and autumn are the wetter seasons. In general, summers in Bristol are warm and reasonably dry, and the winters are mildly cold and frosty. Both autumn and spring are short and have varied weather.
Summer enjoys its temperature in the highs of 22.3°C (72.1°F) and lows of 14.1°C (57.4°F), plus up to seven hours of sunshine per day and favorable humidity.
Winter's temperature averages highs of 8.1°C (46.6°F) and lows of 2°C (35.6°F), with very minimal episodes of below freezing point temperature.
As much as Bristol is a year-round travel destination, the summer months between
June and
August are usually the peak of the tourist season. The mild, warm days offer an excellent time to venture into the outdoors, and the extended daylight hours are a great tie to tour the city in depth. This period also has some of the city's most attended events.
The
July Bristol Harbor Festival, the Bristol Shakespeare Festival in July, and the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta in August are some of the most loved events in the city, attracting attendance from both locally and internationally.
