Southampton is a major port city, located to the southwest of London and northwest of Portsmouth. It is the largest city of Hampshire, and the largest in the entire southeast England region, as well. Southampton is conveniently located at the far north end of Southampton Water where the River Test and River Itchen meet.
Southampton is home to stunning architecture blends of both modern styles and ancient styles and it has grown increasingly attractive to tourists due to its history and development. Home to the world’s largest cruise ships, Southampton has also grown to develop large shopping malls and retail stores and has since become an active commercial and economic hub in the region.
Southampton is known for the "Titanic" and has since built the iconic Sea-City Museum in its design and has become a central tourist attraction spot. Several museums through Southampton have preserved the beautiful artifacts and unique masterpieces of art and craft from the past years.

When to visit Southampton

Southampton experiences an oceanic climate that is Köppen classified as Cfb. This climate is mainly influenced by Southampton’s location in the low-lying and sheltered regions. The weather is usually characterized by summers that are mildly cool to warm with moderately low rainfall, and cold but tolerable winters that receive more rainfall than the other seasons.
During summer, from May to September, Southampton is a lovely place to visit. The weather is mild and pleasant and void of extremely hot days. The temperature averages 17.3°C (63.1°F) and 23.1°C (73.6°F) during the day and approximately 10.3°C (50.5°F) and 14.1°C (57.4°F) during the nights. The nights may feel chillier than registered due to the cold winds. Summer receives ample amounts of sunshine making weather even more pleasant, with most days receiving up to seven and a half hours of sunshine. However, most afternoons may be caught up in light showers of rain for an average of eight days per month to collect an average of 50.6mm (2") in the rain gauge.
Winter starts from December and ends in February, and during this time, Southampton experiences low-temperature recordings in the bracket of 8.3°C (46.9°F) and 9.1°C (48.4°F) on the warmest days and between 2.9°C (37.2°F) and 3.3°C (37.9°F) on the coldest nights. Winter also receives moderately higher rainfall averaging 80.3mm (3.2") per month, measured across approximately eleven and a half days. However, the days may become warmer owing to the two hours of sunshine received per day during winter.
Spring is mild and pleasant, with only a slight improvement in the temperature recordings. Autumn, too, is gentle and tolerable with a moderately high reading on precipitation amount.
Southampton is a pretty attractive travel destination that can be visited anytime during the year. However, the peak of its tourist season is from May to September, during summer. Apart from the warm and pleasant weather during summer, Southampton has numerous events and festivities during this period that attract crowds from far and wide.
Some of the popular events include the Southampton Mela Festival held in July featuring Asian culture and Bollywood events, the famous Southampton Boat Show Fest held in September, and the glamorous SO: To Speak event held between October and November to celebrate the authors, poets, and other spoken word artists.
