Salta is the capital city of the Province of Salta, and it is located to the northwestern region of Argentina. In the entire northwest region of the country, Salta is the second most populated city. The city has a beautiful and convenient location at the foot of the Andes Mountains, within the Lerma Valley.

When to visit Salta

Salta experiences a subtropical highland climate that is Köppen classified as Cwb. The weather is typical of an all-year-round lovely pleasant climate, complete with four distinct weather seasons.
During summer, the days are warm and pleasant, and the nights cold and tolerable. The daytime temperature rarely goes above 28°C (82.4°F), and at night it barely drops below 15°C (59°F). Summer receives much of the rainfall for the whole year, and as such, it is usual for thunderstorms and light floods to frequent the city during the season on almost every afternoon.
During winter, the days turn mildly cool and dry as the temperature drops to a low range of 3°C (37.4°F) during the nights and 19°C (66.2°F) during the daytime on average. Winter is moderately dry and is characterized by clear blue skies and sunny days. For this reason, the weather might feel warmer than recorded, considering very minimal rainfall episodes are recorded. Snowfall is scarce during winter, but frost episodes are a regular happening, especially on the freezing nights.
Autumn is warm and pleasant, and Salta experiences a considerable drop in the temperature. The extra summer heat cools down, and most days remain dry as the rainfall also calms down considerably. The fall has a unique beauty that leaves the entire city covered in a golden-brown illumination that is even more stunning viewed against the ancient stone architecture. After the summer rains, the grass becomes greener, and Salta is more scenic than ever during this time.
Spring is mild, with the temperature in the range of 10°C (50°F) and 14°C (57.2°F) during the nights and between 25°C (77°F) and 28°C (82.4°F) during the day. The days are sunny and pleasant, and moderately dry enough to allow for a perfect tour of the city. Even better, the air is fresh, crisp, and scented from the numerous blossoms of the flowery trees across the gardens and parks in the city.
The peak of travel seasons in Salta is during summer, from December to February, and during winter, from July to August. Spring and autumn have their fair share of attractions too. These seasons have warm and pleasant weather and many festivals to participate in.
Between February and March, Salta holds its annual Carnaval, and in April, the famous annual Cultural Festival is celebrated.
