Cartagena, Spain

Cartagena is a major Spanish port city and a great naval base that is located in the Murcia Region to the southeast of Spain. Located on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, Cartagena is the second-largest city in the region, and its port is one of the most important ports in the western Mediterranean.
Cartagena was founded around 227 B.C. and had its heydays during the Roman period. The city has a vast history, visible through the many ruins that date back to the Roman Empire. The ancient Casa de la Fortuna, a beautiful villa built complete with stunning murals and mosaic art is one of the Roman Ruins. The Punic Wall that was used as the defense wall in the Third Century B.C is another attractive structure dating back into the Roman rule of Cartagena. The ruins of Santa Maria Cathedral are another representation of the past of the city.
One of the most-visited spots in Cartagena is Concepcion Hill, which is the highest point of Cartagena. A beautiful modern Panoramic Lift takes visitors to the top of the hill from where the magnificence of the entire city can be experienced.

Cartagena experiences a hot semi-arid climate or a steppe climate which is Köppen classified as BSh. The climate is influenced mainly by its location on the Mediterranean Sea, which is vital in moderating the temperature throughout the seasons. Cartagena is one of the warmest cities in the Mediterranean region.
Summer has temperatures soaring to highs between 28.5°C (83.3°F) and 33.8°C (92.8°F) and dropping to lows between 19.8°C (67.6°F) and 24.5°C (76.1°F). Most of the days are dry. Precipitation averages 10.2mm (0.4") per month, with no more than one day of rainfall per month. The daily sunshine hours go as high as ten, and the humidity remains 75% approximately.
Winter is mild and pleasant, and most of the rainfall is received in the season, albeit in small amounts. Precipitation in the season is approximately 33mm (1.3"), and there are five and a half rainfall days per month. The daily temperature averages highs of 19.5°C (67.1°F) and lows of 9.9°C (49.8°F).
Spring and autumn and cool and pleasant, and both exhibit the best weather and beauty of Cartagena throughout the year.
Cartagena is a year-round travel destination, but the tourism period peaks during summer, between July and August, when the days are warm and dry and the weather lovely for many outdoor activities. During spring, in the Easter holiday between March and April, Cartagena experiences a surge in its visitors as the religious celebrations reach their climax.
Popular events in Cartagena include the Holy Week that is usually held one week before the Easter celebrations kick in. In July, Cartagena holds the La Mar de Musicas festival - world music festival meant to celebrate and appreciate the music industry. In September, the famous Carthaginians and Roman Festivals are held in the city.
