Sun Moon Lake, Taiwan

Sun Moon Lake is a beautiful lake in the township of Yuchi, in Nantou County, in Taiwan. The Sun Moon Lake surrounds Lalu, a famous small Island and the area around the lake is home to the Thao tribe of Taiwan. Sun Moon Lake is the largest of the water bodies in the country and has a shape that depicts the sun on the eastern side and another that resembles the moon on the western side, resulting in its name.
Apart from the beautiful nature of the lake, its surrounding mountainous region is another attractive aspect to it. Sun Moon Lake is not a 'swimming-in' lake, but occasional events like the Swimming Carnival of the Sun Moon Lake held on its waters make it the best place to visit for a dive in the water races. Tourists like to visit the Sun Moon Lake region also for its numerous hiking trails in the mountains overlooking the lake and to witness its beauty in the wee hours of the morning when it is calm and silent.
