A sudden shift in the weather

The heat had been building for days. Streets baked under relentless sun. Air hung heavy.

Then the change came fast.

In Bengaluru, India, intense rainfall, gusty winds and hailstorms swept across the city, breaking a long stretch of elevated temperatures and humidity. The downpour brought brief relief. It also brought disruption.

Water pooled on roads. Trees fell. The storm moved quickly, but its impact was immediate.

Wall collapse turns deadly

Amid the sudden weather shift, a section of an 8-foot wall inside a hospital complex collapsed.

Seven people were killed. Among them were a child, four street vendors, and two individuals from Kerala. Three others were injured and taken for treatment.

The scene unfolded rapidly. A Reuters witness reported an injured woman receiving first aid before being moved for further checks.

The collapse came as heavy rain and strong winds swept through parts of the city. Structures weakened by weather stress gave way without warning.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the incident as “unfortunate."

Storm relief after extreme heat

The storm marked a sharp break from a prolonged period of intense heat across India.

Temperatures have been reaching between 40 and 45 degrees across multiple states. The heat has strained daily life and increased health risks, while power systems face sustained pressure.

The India Meteorological Department has warned that temperatures may rise further in the coming days. Any thunderstorms are expected to bring only short-term relief.

Dry conditions, strong solar radiation and delayed seasonal changes continue to drive the heat.

A pattern of extremes

The sequence is stark.

Weeks of oppressive heat. Then a sudden burst of violent weather.

In Bengaluru, the storm cooled the air but destabilized the environment. Heavy rain led to waterlogging. Winds brought down trees. Hail added intensity.

The storm passed, but the damage remained visible.
